Answers to Inspectors’ Most Frequently Asked Questions
Q: When Should a Management Plan Be Updated?
A: A management plan should be updated when there are changes to the forest condition, such as the occurrence of a natural disaster or insect and disease outbreak, when there are changes to landowner objectives, or when there are changes to owner, ownership or acreage. The general rule of thumb is that if the forest management plan does not match field conditions, then it is time to update. Always verify that each element of the plan is still valid and relevant. If necessary, the ATFS 2015-2020 Addendum is available for quick updates, but substantial updates require updates to the plan itself.
