CONGRATULATIONS TO TREE FARMER OF THE YEAR: RAY FAMILY TREE FARM
The Ray
Family Farm has been an active SDFFA member since 2019. Management of the
property enhances multiple-use characteristics while ensuring that agricultural
commodities are supplied to local communities each year.
They encourage
healthy forest management and the reduction of forest health invasives transported
throughout the state by creating and selling “campfire kits.” These kits supply
income to the property and support the SD Department of Agriculture and
Natural Resources (DANR) Forest Action Plan.
Son Mike Ray
has stepped up into multiple sub-committee positions within the organization as
well as serving as chairman of SDFFA Board of Directors. He is a staunch
advocate for forest landowners and taxation and is always willing to be a voice
for SDFFA.
The Ray Family’s connection to their land, their
stewardship efforts, and his active SDFFA participation are a great example for
so many in SDFFA to admire.
